Shalom Center Updates
When we saw the great need for community-based child protection hubs, our generous supporters showed up in a huge way to fund these new ventures. Thank you for responding to make this possible!
We have named the first new location “The Shalom Center” because Shalom means peace, harmony, and wholeness. The Bible describes this kind of peace as relationships restored and reconciled; people experiencing well-being, justice, and abundant flourishing; and God, people, and all of creation interconnected in beautiful harmony. This is our hope for the community!
Through these centers, our teams will provide many types of support, training, and opportunity to empower families to protect themselves, their children, and their community.
As soon as we found the right location, our teams began showing up daily to engage children and families. Because these moms know GCA is there to keep their kids safe, the lack of furniture or walls is of little concern to them for now.
We then purchased the land, designed plans, and requested bids from several local builders. At the end of July we held a groundbreaking ceremony and construction is now in full swing. Our Asia Director has nothing but amazing things to say about the character and excellence of the builder.
Because these families are so eager to learn, our trainings and programs will continue throughout the building process.
Over the next few months, we will share progress photos here so you can watch the journey to Shalom. You’ll note that building in Thailand is much different than it is here, especially in the middle of rainy season. Check back often to watch this plot full of mud become a haven of peace and restoration for this whole community.
We can’t wait to see all that God does in this place!
