What Bombs Can’t Break
The story of Gold Rain’s family, faith, and peace in the fire - Written by Ashlee Heiligman
June 2025
At the end of April, three bombs fell from the sky onto Gold Rain’s family farm in Myanmar. There was no warning. No military target. Just the familiar hum of planes that had passed overhead countless times before. But this time, something was different.
Gold Rain’s brother was in the kitchen, cooking. He heard an aircraft above and for some unknown reason, this time he felt an intense urgency to leave. Within moments, three bombs dropped directly onto their home. The blast sparked a fire which consumed everything - the house, the fields, and every trace of the life they had built there.
This was the second time that Gold Rain’s family had suffered this kind of devastation. The military’s strategy is fear - bombing homes and villages at random to keep people afraid.
But fear didn’t win that day.
Though the flames devoured everything, not a single life was lost. Gold Rain’s brother was safe. And through it all, what stands out most is not just the horror, but the peace. When Gold Rain shared the news with me, she didn’t lead with heartbreak. She spoke of God’s presence.
She said that in the middle of this crisis, God was answering her prayers - not by saving the house, but by showing her how He had been growing her spiritually. You see, Gold Rain had been asking God for the past several months to strengthen her faith and make her steadfast, regardless of circumstances. The evidence, she said, was unmistakable: even as everything burned, she experienced a peace that surpasses all understanding. Her brother, once distant in his faith, now believes it was God who stirred his heart to leave the house just in time.
This is who leads Sojourn Studio in Thailand.
In a world where pain is often hidden or numbed, Gold Rain leads with honesty, courage, and an unshakable faith. She doesn’t just oversee the work of the studio, she serves as a humble guide to Life. She understands what it means to rebuild from ashes, and she helps others do the same with quiet strength and grace.
In Myanmar, the devastation of war has become heartbreakingly common. Families lose homes, loved ones, and their sense of safety every day. What should never be accepted has become routine. And yet, in the middle of that reality stands Gold Rain, a woman of peace, of presence, of purpose.
That is the beauty of Sojourn Studio: women like Gold Rain, creating with intention and quiet strength - not in the absence of hardship, but in the midst of it.
Each piece they shape is an act of hope, a declaration that even through pain, beauty and purpose can rise.
