Close to Crisis

Daw La Myint’s Commitment to Family

Myanmar, 2025

Daw La Myint’s case was referred to the GCA Myanmar Team by a clinic in her community. She had brought her adult son there for medical treatment and the staff learned that she was living on her won, while also caring for her young granddaughter, the child of her daughter who had left her baby behind.

Daw La Myint’s husband works in Bangkok, and had hoped to make enough money to support her, their son, and their granddaughter. However, the amount he was able to send barely covered the cost of their son’s ongoing medical care, and he needed to pay for his own Certificate of Identity process to continue to be able to work in Bangkok.

At the time, Da La Myint, her son, and granddaughter were living in the house of her son’s former employer. Her son had previously worked and was able to contribute to his family’s needs, but he’d suffered a severe reaction to medication, which left him unable to speak and unable to work. Because of this, the family had not been able to pay rent for nearly two months, and the house owner warned them they would have to leave if they couldn’t pay soon.

This sweet family was facing a second separation.

GCA Myanmar jumped into action and began supporting the family by providing their immediate needs of dry food, milk for the baby, and rent for their home. We also took time to listen, provide emotional support, and ensure they had the resources and encouragement they needed to take the next step towards stability.

Moving forward, GCA Myanmar will provide training for the family to help them build resilience and independence.

Da La Myint and her family were close to a crisis, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to step in and offer the amount of support they need to stay together. We realize that without this support, Da La Myint’s granddaughter, who is only 18 months old, could have been separated from her grandmother, just as she had already been separated from her mother. Our intervention helped prevent another painful loss in her young life.

Today, because of this support, the family has a safe home, food to eat, and they remain together, surrounded by love and care.

Your support will keep more families together!
