Mar San: A Life Transformed

At just 23 years old, Mar San was facing more than most could bear.

With a newborn baby in her arms, a young daughter to protect, and mounting debt from her husband’s alcohol addiction, her world was unraveling. When her husband was hospitalized and lost his job, the family was forced out of their home. Suddenly, Mar San was left alone without food, without shelter, and without a clear way forward.

The pressure was overwhelming. She had already tried to end her pregnancy out of fear she could not provide. Now, holding her newborn, she felt trapped between impossible choices. Her home was unstable and often violent, and she feared for the safety of both her children.

In her desperation, she reached out to Global Child Advocates.

GCA stepped in immediately, providing food, safe shelter, counseling, and parenting support. Her daughter was enrolled in school, bringing stability to her daily life. But more than meeting practical needs, something deeper began to change.

Through the kindness, consistency, and compassion of the GCA team, Mar San experienced something she had never known before, the love of Jesus. In a time when she felt alone and without hope, she encountered people who saw her, valued her, and reminded her that her life, and her children’s lives, mattered.

As her husband returned, his violence continued. But this time, Mar San was not alone. With support from GCA, she found the courage to report the abuse and make the life-changing decision to protect her children by leaving the abuser. It was not easy.

Starting over as a single mother of two, she faced ongoing challenges. But GCA continued walking alongside her, offering encouragement, practical support, and a steady reminder that a different future was possible.

Today, Mar San is rebuilding her life. She has found work, is beginning to address her debts, and is creating a safe and stable home for her children. Her daughter is thriving in school, and their home is now marked by peace instead of fear.

What once felt like the end of her story has become a new beginning.
