Nancy’s Story: Part 2
The Power of Family, Community, and Hope
In December 2025, everything was ready.
With all assessments completed and safety plans in place, Aneth, the Kinondoni Social Welfare
Officer, together with Global Child Advocates staff, began the long journey to reunify Nancy with her
mother. The road from Dar es Salaam to Lyadebwe village takes nearly ten hours but that day, it felt
like twenty minutes.
The bus was filled with joy.
Nancy could hardly sit still. Each mile brought her closer to the mother she had not seen in years.
Her smile said everything words could not.
When they arrived safely in Lyadebwe, the reunion was not just a family moment it was a
community moment.
Lyadebwe is a close-knit, community-based society where people live life together. After receiving
updates from the Village Executive Officer, local leaders planned a community meeting to coincide
with Nancy’s return. The goal was clear: to raise awareness, to protect children, and to ensure that
what happened to Nancy would never happen again.
As GCA staff, Aneth, and Nancy arrived, they were met with gratitude and open hearts. The
community gathered not in blame, but in responsibility.
During the meeting, the importance of child protection, family-based care, and community
collaboration was discussed openly. Community members learned how human trafficking, child
labour, and exploitation often begin with false promises and silence. Nancy’s story became a
powerful lesson: children are safest when families and communities are informed, united, and
vigilant.
That day, Nancy was reunified with her mother; stronger, happier, and full of hope. In January 2026,
she begins school, supported not only by her family, but by an entire community that has promised
to watch over her, encourage her learning, and protect her future.
Nancy’s journey reminds us of what is possible when communities, government, and organizations
work together. Global Child Advocates collaborates closely with social welfare officers and local
leaders to ensure justice is served, children are protected, and families not institutions remain at the
centre of a child’s life.
