All children need the love of a family
Around the world, 80-90% of the 8 million or more children living in orphanages are ‘social orphans’, meaning one or both of their parents are still alive. In the developing world, many children end up in orphanages indefinitely due to poverty, corruption, and a lack of community resources.
Since family separation is a catastrophic loss for a child, which puts them at a much greater risk of trafficking and exploitation, we strengthen families to protect their children and help orphaned children be safely placed into loving families of their own.
Together, we can prevent family separation and empower families for every child.
Where do social orphans live?
This graphic displays the percentage of children living in orphanages who have at least one living parent.
Help us prevent separation, reunify families and equip foster families for every child.
